Let’s face it our bedroom is one of the best spaces in our home, where we end our day and recharge for the next. It’s supposed to be relaxing and comforting. A place where we can finally put our feet up, take a deep breath, and destress after our busy day.
So how do we get our bed to feel cozy?
well, the answer is, layers of soft and breathable materials, combined with a good-quality mattress and calming colour palette. The layers of textiles make you feel warm, the comfort from the mattress makes you feel relaxed and the neutral colour palette makes you feel calm. which is the perfect formula to make your bed feel cozy.
The bedroom is so important, think about when you go to a hotel or on vacation, as soon as you open the door to your hotel room you get this calming sensation all over. A room that is clean, and has a cozy decorated bed, curtains, and decor just makes us feel at ease.
Sleeping in a hotel bed with high-quality linens and pillows just makes us feel even more relaxed. So why just have that when you’re away on vacation? You shouldn’t, you should have that feeling every day at home as well. Here I will give you all the tips you need to make your bed cozier, and provide that much-needed sense of calm we all crave after a long stressful day.
So how do you go about making your bed feel cozy? stick with me, I got you covered. Below you will find all the things you need to achieve your cozy bed.
The 5 things you need to make your bed feel cozy.
The first thing you need to consider is the colour palette, this will play a massive part in your choice of your bedding. I recommend 3 colours, however, you can do up to 5. If you are going for a more eclectic style like my current bed style you can go with more but it can get challenging putting it all together. If you are a big fan of neutrals that’s great you can mix whites, creams, beige, and soft grey tones together this is a very calming colour palette.
Tip: when working with a neutral palette make sure you are using pieces with different textures and materials this will help a neutral bed pop and look more inviting.
Calming colours
- Blues, think of the ocean, it’s such a calming colour.
- Whites, are light and bright and look great with other colours.
- Beige, adds warmth to a space.
- Pink tones, well I know pink isn’t for everyone and I don’t mean paint or buy bedding bubble gum pink. Try softer corals blush tones, beiges can have a pink undertone as well. A muted pink something with a grey undertone very soft and calming.
- Green, bringing the outdoors in.
Soft, natural, and muted colours are best for sleep. Try any of these colours in your bedding but in a more muted version, they are more sleep-inducing which can really help you create that cozy bed. Soothing colours make us feel calm, and soft materials make us feel cozy.
Tip: If you are going for a calming cozy vibe, stay away from reds, orange, purple, or anything too bright or too dark.
Okay so now you have a colour palette picked out let’s get to the bed. To get that designer-worthy cozy bed we all love we need 3 things Texture, Layers, and Patterns oh my!!!
Here is a list of the 5 things you need to make your bed look and feel cozy.
1. High-quality sheets
I personally love bamboo or high-count Egyptian cotton. Linen is also great but wrinkles easily, it’s for more of a relaxed look so keep that in mind my favourites are listed below. On a smaller budget, they do have great microfibre sheets on amazon which is a great affordable option, you just may need to replace them more often.
2. Duvet and cover
Transform your bed into a cloud of cozy comfort, in my opinion, the best duvet inserts are Down Alternative they are filled with hypoallergenic microfiber or microgel that mimics luxury down. This is my favourite one here
As for the duvet cover, there ao many great ones. If you are on a budget I would say spend more of your budget on your insert and find a more affordable option for your cover. I love H&M home duvet covers very affordable linked below. if you are looking for something more high end I love pottery barn their covers are so soft and beautiful. My favourite here
3. Quilt
well you could skip this but, I would recommend you get one, yes they can be a bit pricey especially when you are buying for a king bed but it goes back to that texture, layer, and pattern oh my! rule it creates another layer you can also use them for an added pop of colour and they really add another layer of coziness with the texture they have. This is one of my favourites here you can also find great ones at Walmart. here
4. Pillows and throw pillows
your pillows on your bed should always be the right size and if you have a queen get queen-size pillows if you have a king make sure your pillows are king and not queen it just won’t fill the bed properly. we have a king but we also use gel pillows for sleeping they are smaller so I hide those in the back but keep our fluffy king pillows in front.
Throw pillows
add so much texture and colour and provide more layers, you can also add patterns here to add some more interest to your bed. How many pillows you have on your bed is totally up to you I like it a lot because the more layers the cozier it feels. On a king, I like to do 3, 26″ shams followed by 2, 22″ and a lumbar pillow in front. However, you could just do 3, 26″ and an extra-long lumbar pillow in front. On a queen you can do 2, 26″ or 24″ followed by a lumbar or 1, 20″ pillow.
Tip: make sure your insert is good quality fluffy pillows look and feel cozier.
How your bed looks plays a huge part in how it feels. Here is a simple guide to help you style your bed.
5. Throw blanket
Depending on the look you are going for you can add a throw hanging off the side of the bed this way you can have a smaller throw which would be a bit more affordable. However, I’m one who likes it across the end of the bed so for this you should have a throw the size of your bed or bigger this will allow it to hang over the bed creating a more relaxed look which adds to that cozy feeling we all love so much and creates another level of texture that makes your bed look and feel so comfortable.
Remember to have fun with it, decorating your bed shouldn’t be stressful. Gather everything you need then put it together, if things are not working return items or switch things up. Taking the time each morning to make your bed and tidy your room, for when you come home at the end of the day will make you feel so relaxed and enjoy your cozy bed so much more!
I hope this post taught you all the things you need to make your bed feel cozy.
