decorate your home for free

1. Switch around pillows

This is a great way to restyle a space. I do this all the time moving my throw pillows from my bedroom to the living room, or from  my spare room to my daughters room.

Such a great way to change up space giving it a fresh look to your room.

Even just rearranging the order of your pillows around the living room or on your bed is a great way to decorate your home for free.

Picture one I took my Marigold interiors stripped pillows from my bedroom and and put them on the sofa. They look great in both spaces. You can shop my room and learn how to make your bed cozy

2. Swap furniture

Moving around furniture in your space is a great option.

Try swapping out your dresser with another dresser in your home, matching sets can really look dated this will give a more modern current look to your room.

Another option you can switch up nightstands as well, or can ever paint some of your exciting furniture.

Most of us have paint somewhere in the basement, you can even take it a step farther and mix them together to create your own custom colour.

This a great way to really enhance the space and make a big impact for free cause you are using things you already have just relocating them to a different room in your home.

3. check out marketplace

Did you know that Facebook market place has a free section? well they do and there are some amazing finds.

I bet your thinking well if they are free it can't be anything good, but I promise you if you stock the free section you will find so many furniture and decor items on there that people just need to get rid of.

There are so many good finds I have found, lamps, vases, old dressers and even bed frames that just need good clean up or maybe a paint job and you can use things you already have to DIY them.

Below are some stools I got they were oak and someone giving them away for free.

I painted them black for awhile them decided to try something trendy and did a faux wood look with a checkered pattern love and I used everything I already had.

4. Art

First take some of your frames or find some from market place in the free section take out the art and add things like a pillow case to your frame, you could also use a patterned tea towel or cut and old sheet place in frame and you have some amazing free art.

Even wallpaper samples cut to size of frame and you instantly have framed art.

This can change up your gallery wall and an easy way to decorate your home for free.

Tip #2 find a free domain or stock photos site you can download art and print at home.

I do find that some art doesn't look good quality when printed at home so if you want to keep it free I recommend searching ''sketch art'' because these print best at home.

affordable checkerd flooring

I used one here in my bathroom makeover and just printed at home. I used a frame I already had and voila free art! you can read all about how I refreshed my bathroom for under $350 Here

Marketplace also has free canvas art or if you have something at home that you don't really like anymore try painting it with some paint you have in the basement.

Just head to Pinterest for some many DIY ideas for this just pick something where you already have the materials to keep it free.

5. shop nature

No need to buy faux florals or branches just shop your yard, parents yard,  or even out on a hike.

If you are in colder climates this can be a challenge but don't under estimate how pretty some branches can be in a vase.

Then in the warmer months you can do more branches with leaves or flowers from the garden.

6. Save your jars

Again using what you already have, save those jars and use them to create vases around your home.

Many ideas on Pinterest. A lot of the DIY ideas for jars use things you already have at home.

Below is one of my favourite DIY's you can literally use any old glass jar or vase and turn it into tinted glass with some glue and food colouring you probably have in your cupboard.

7. Swap decor

This could be a fun one. you can always swap decor with friends and family to add to your home.

Almost everyone has boxes in the basement of things they are not using so shop their stash and let them shop yours easy way for both of you to decorate your home for free.

8. Re- imagine things

Just because a decor item is meant for one thing doesn't mean you can't re-imagine it in a different way.

Let's say you have a few old dishes In the cupboard you can take them paint it and place at the front door to use to hold sunglasses or keys.

Tip #2  instead of placing a throw blanket on the sofa try placing it on the back adds a little interest to a plain sofa.

Use your imagination, Top left picture I placed a throw on the back of the sofa to add interest and texture.

In the bottom picture I took the tablecloth from my dining table in top right picture and used it on the back of the sofa to add some interest and to break up the sofa colour.

Just remember to think outside the box, shop your home and move furniture and decor around to freshen up your space.

9. Food

Don't underestimate the power of food lol. No seriously displaying food on tables or counter tops can be a great way to decorate your home for free.

Place fruit, in a bowl I love apple or pears. Or if you have guests coming cookies on a plate or in a jar, and my all time favourite is bread on a cutting board or in a basket.

Place fruit bowl, bread on your table with some lit candles and a DIY vase with a stem from outside and you have perfect cozy invited table scape for free that your guest will definitely love.

10. Napkins

Not just for fancy dinner parties you can use your cloth napkins in so many different ways.

Try adding them to your table scape you can use them down the centre bunching them up giving a relaxed table runner look.

you can also use them in bowls with fruit have the napkin hang out abit creates another layer to your styled fruit bowl.

Lastly and my favourite way, place under plates, serving dishes, and centrepieces on your table scape they add so much texture, colour and creates a softer intimate feeling to your table.

It's a great way to switch things up from the same old table styling with a table runner and placemats.

This same idea can be applied to your countertop too.

Place down napkins scrunch up first to create a relaxed look then place your bread, cheese board or fruit platter on top.

Best fabrics are cotton and linen napkins they just work better.
